You’re supposed to be a little scared at Halloween.
Maybe because of the costumes or maybe just because of the constant line of 7 year olds screaming for chocolate at your door.
However, possibly the more pertinent aspect of Halloween to get you shaking in your novelty ‘Dead Buzz Lightyear’ costume is the footprint left behind.
In 2018, $9bn was spent on single use, non sustainable material for costumes, decorations and candies. That figure is in the USA alone. That’s certainly enough to keep me up at night.
But Halloween is fun, right!?
How about instead of paying for a flimsy, sort-of-looks-like Thor costume, why not head to a charity shop? Make decorations instead of buying them in? Fill your goodie bag with Fairtrade, NASAA or USDA certified treats for the door-knockers... Big brands don’t need your hard earned cash.
Let’s make the costumes the scary thing, not the mess that is left behind.
